Yongjun Wang Presented with WSO President’s Award

On Oct. 27, the prestigious WSO President's Award was presented to Yongjun Wang, Leading Scientist at CPL at the 14th World Stroke Congress. He is the first scientist from Asia who has won this award.

 

The World Stroke Organization's President's Award recognizes international leaders who have made significant contributions to stroke care and research. Only one recipient is selected each year among stroke researchers worldwide.  "As a neurologist, Prof. Yongjun Wang has been committed to the clinical and scientific research of cerebrovascular diseases for 40 years.  He and his team created the 'CHANCE' program of short-term combined antiplatelet therapy for non-disabling ischemic cerebrovascular disease, ushering in the era of combined antiplatelet therapy for ischemic cerebrovascular disease. He pioneered the 'CHANCE-2' trial, a combined antiplatelet therapy study guided by rapid drug genetic testing, making prominent contributions to precise clinical diagnosis, treatment and research of stroke. He initiated the China National Stroke Registry (CNSR), using multi-omics and biomarker studies to discover the role of inflammatory mechanisms in stroke recurrence, and launched the 'CHANCE-3' trial on colchicine for the secondary prevention of ischemic cerebrovascular disease. Mark Fisher, WSO president said in his award speech that Yongjun Wang and his team have made numerous outstanding contributions in reducing the risk of residual recurrence of ischemic cerebrovascular disease.

Yongjun Wang is Leading Scientist at CPL, President and professor of Neurology Department of Beijing Tiantan Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University, Director of National Center for Healthcare Quality Management in Neurological Diseases, Vice Director of China National Clinical Research Center for Neurological Diseases, Director of Advanced Innovation Center for Human Brain Protection, President of Chinese Stroke Association, Designated Chairman of the Neurology Branch of Chinese Medical Association and Chief Editor of Stroke and Vascular Neurology. He worked as one of the chief scientists for the 12th Five Year Plan for science and technology development on cerebrovascular diseases, and 13th Five Year Plan National Key Research and Development Project on chronic non-communicable diseases. Prof. Wang’s research focuses on the recurrence prevention strategies of ischemic cerebrovascular disease. His work was recognized by multiple honors and awards, including the Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award (twice), the First Prize of Beijing science progress Award (twice), First National Innovation Awards Medal, Zhongyuan Concord Life Medicine Awards, Tan Jiazhen Life Science Award, and the title of “National Outstanding Professional and Technical Talents”.
